| 1999 McGraw Hill New Engineering Educator Award presented to Mr Stuart Palmer, Deakin University Stuart Palmers goal is to achieve excellence in his professional endeavours as an engineering educator. His enthusiasm and drive for excellence inform his teaching, research, development and service activities, all of which are impressive. Stuarts extensive and diverse professional experience in industry adds great value to his academic role. He demonstrates enormous personal motivation, commitment, and dedication to both lifelong learning and developing his own skills, thereby providing an outstanding role model for his students. Students place significant store on Stuarts professionalism, his role as a mentor, and his ability to link the classroom with professional engineering practice. As an educator, his innovation and creativity are particularly evident in his assessment tasks, which are designed to promote synthesis of technical and professional practice skills, and the generic and specific attributes required in graduate engineers. Stuart is taking a leadership role locally and nationally through his
design and development of flexible learning resources and learning environments
for the teaching of engineering management. His Doctor of Technology
