2000 The Award for Innovation in Engineering Education (Formally The Motorola Award)

The PM Outreach Program is a world class on-line graduate program in project management, delivered via the Internet. It offers the combination of continuous professional development and formal academic qualification courses using a structured approach and providing maximum flexibility and learning opportunity for students globally.

It is an innovative multi-disciplinary partnership between industry and the University of Sydney, leading to a number of awards, up to the degree of Master of Project Management. It has received full accreditation from various professional bodies including the Australian Institute of Project Management and the US-based Project Management Institute. It is recognised by the Institution of Engineers, Australia as meeting the requirements for continuing professional development in Project Management

The PM Outreach Program has targeted the educational needs of professionals using an on-line consultative program called Self-Assessment Test. It has employed the latest pedagogical concepts in distributed teaching and learning and is highly innovative in the way that it engages students in deep learning and self development, utilising the professional person’s workplace projects. A structured learning program, designed specifically to facilitate the acquisition of the target competencies (emergent capabilities), is executed by students in a flexible and stimulating manner under mentoring and continuous feedback. Professional development is thus achieved through a mixture of experiential and reflective learning.

Highly Commended presented to Undergraduate Site Learning Program - David Radcliffe, The University of Queensland

The Undergraduate Site Learning Program develops senior engineering students as self-managed learners, through a unique integration of work-based learning with a traditional university curriculum. It forms a key part of an innovation strategic learning partnership between the University of Queensland and Thiess.
