    Eligibility

The AAEE awards are open to all persons who are, or have been, involved in engineering education at university level in Australasia. While experience and contributions outside Australasia may be important in establishing credibility and capability, the winners will be decided based on contributions to engineering education within Australasia.

It is not necessary for nominees to be members of AAEE.

To be eligible, educators must be practising in an engineering program which either has or is in the process of gaining accreditation from The Institution of Engineers, Australia or The Institution of Professional Engineers, New Zealand. However, nominees need not be professional engineers themselves. The activities for which the award nomination is sought must relate to professional engineering or engineering technology programs, and can encompass any engineering subject area within a program, including core engineering, stream specific topics, engineering science, engineering practice, and/or engineering technology. By way of example, this could include (but is not limited to) activities related to individual courses or subjects in eg social responsibility, computing, sustainability, communications, mathematics, physics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, economics, project management, power systems, mechanics, and so on.

    Nominations

Applications should consist of the following:
    1. The name(s) of the nominator(s), and their relationship with the nominee. Self-nominations are welcome.
    2. A statement describing the key achievements of the nominee and presenting the case as to why they would be a worthy recipient of the nominated award. (This statement should not exceed two A4 pages of single spaced Times 12 point text.)
    3. A curriculum vitae of the nominee. In the case of a team nomination, a curriculum vitae should be sent for each member of the team. (Each curriculum vitae should not exceed five A4 pages.)
    4. Relevant samples of the nominee's work. This will depend on the particular award but may include publications, learning resources, multimedia resources, student evaluations...
    5. Up to four letters of support from colleagues and students who can attest to the validity of the case developed in point 2 above.
    6. A total of five copies of the application must be sent. While only one complete set of sample work (see point 4 above) must be sent, applicants may choose to include selected samples with each copy of the application.
    7. Full contact details including an e-mail address. (All applicants will receive e-mail acknowledgement of receipt of their application.)

Please email your nomination, together with statements of supporting evidence (not exceeding four A4 pages) to Dr Vojislav Ilic ( v.ilic@uws.edu.au ), Chair, Awards Committee, by 29th  August 2003.

    Judging

All awards will be judged by a panel consisting of:
  • President or Vice-President of AAEE
  • Executive member of AAEE, elected by the executive
  • A Dean of Engineering, nominated by the Australian Council of Engineering Deans
  • Chief Executive of the Institution of Engineers, Australia, or their nominee
  • An industry representative nominated by the sponsor of the award
  • Presentation of the Awards

Up to three applicants will be short-listed for each award. Short-listed applicants will be notified in late September so that they can make arrangements to attend the Awards Banquet. Short-listed applicants will be asked to forward a photograph suitable for publicity purposes.

The winners will be announced and presented with their prizes at the Association's Annual Conference Dinner.

    Conditions

Nominations not received by the due date will not be considered.

AAEE reserves the right to not award a particular prize in any particular year.

It is assumed that the nominee, should they be successful in being short-listed for an award, will have the support of their Dean/Head of School to enable them to attend the prize presentation.
