In order to produce a Conference Proceedings with as uniform an appearance as possible and consistent with those of previous AaeE Conferences, we request that the format conforms with the following.

Document Preparation Guidelines

The following guidelines will help you prepare your paper in the format required for publishing your paper for the 13th Annual Conference of the Australasian Association for Engineering Education. Your efforts to comply with these instructions will be appreciated and will help us avoid unnecessary delays in final editing of all the papers for printing as a proceedings.

All full papers will be bound in a single volume to be available at the conference.

All abstracts will be available on this site once acceptance of the full paper has been confirmed.

Your Deadlines
  • Completed manuscript in electronic format due for refereeing not later than 5 April 2002 - (there is no requirement for a hard copy)
  • You will be notified of acceptance of the paper and any referees' comments by 17 May 2002
  • Last date for receipt of final copy of paper in electronic format is 28 June 2002 - (you may provide a hard copy if you consider that the formatting may be lost or subscript/superscript is lost.)
  • Copyright form due by 30 July 2002
  • Nomination of presenter due by 30 July 2002

Our Deadlines
  • Return to authors any required corrections/modifications on accepted papers 17 May 2002
  • Absolute deadline for receiving final (corrected) papers 28 June 2002

Your paper will be reproduced from your corrected electronic version.

Ensure that you SPELL CHECK your document. Check for conformity of format.

The editors reserve the right to possibly correct spelling, spacing and punctuation to conform to the standards of the conference.

Electronic Format

Acceptable: IBM compatible formatted in Word for Windows - Word 6 or later

For Macintosh users, you will need to provide IBM compatible files

Sending files:

The files may be sent on a Windows formatted 3.5 double sided high density disk (label the disk for clear identification)

Or

transmit by email (preferred) as an attachment. Please use the email address aaee@con-sol.com

Labelling your file/s:

Your file should be labelled: Surname-initial-1.file extension

such as: Boles-W-1.doc for my first, unreviewed paper (Word format)

The final copy of the paper will be: Boles-R-2.doc for the final copy ready for the proceedings

Same author(s) for more that one paper, please add a letter after the numbers in the files name.
Example: Boles-W-1a.doc, Boles-W-1b.doc etc. The final papers will be Boles-R-2a.doc, Boles-R-2b.doc etc.

Paper Layout & Example

Title:

Font 16 point, Bold, centred
title should clearly identify the context of your paper
keep title succinct, no more than two lines (one line preferred)

Author/s

leave two clear lines below title
mixed case, Font 12 point, centered

Affiliation

place immediately under author/s - do not leave clear line
use one line only, italicise
abbreviate and capitalise only as required.
clearly identify authors with organisations.
Leave two blank lines between the author/affiliation and abstract

Abstract

the abstract should be less than 250 words
clearly summarise the paper, giving aims, methods and outcomes
DO NOT use headings in the abstract
The word ABSTRACT: should be in ALL UPPER CASE and should appear on the first line of the abstract. The abstract should span over the whole area between the left and right margins, one column.
Leave two blank lines between the abstract and text

Place all tables and figures where they belong in the document.
Tables

identify each table with a numeral and caption
start number and caption one line above the table and centred
allow one clear line space between caption and table

Figures

identify each figure with a numeral and caption
start number and caption on line below the figure and centred
allow one clear space between caption and figure
allow one clear line space between figure and text below

Photographs

special requirements for photograph
contact the conference secretariat to ensure conflict free electronic transfer

Equations

Align equations with left-hand margin
Present equations in text format only - do not use specialised styles
Assign a numeral to each equation, in parenthesis (brackets) on right margin

References

Please list and number all references at the end of the paper, as shown in the sample paper. Refer to the reference in the text [1] with a corresponding reference number in brackets. Arrange as follows:

Abbreviations

The standard styles for abbreviations will be maintained
SI units do not use stops or commas
Mr Dr Mrs Pty Ltd or words which end in their last letter do not have a full stop when abbreviated
use italics for et al., pers.comm.

Workshop Layout & Example

The AaeE2002 Conference Committee invites workshop proposals. Proposals should respond to the following headings and be no more than an A4 page in length.

  • Objective
  • Abstract
  • Target Audience
  • Method
  • Conclusion
  • References
  • Keywords
  • Workshop presenter(s)
  • Short bio of presenter(s)

Workshop proposals that are accepted for presentation at AaeE 2002 will be available in a booklet at the conference in order to allow participants to select those that they wish to attend. Workshop timeslots will be around 1 hour and will generally run in parallel with paper presentations.

Proposals must be received by: 5 April 2002
Notification of acceptance will be by: 17 May 2002

Proposals should be submitted via the email address listed above for papers and should use the same layout in terms of fonts and spacing.
