2. Goals and Directions
The group discussed the philosophy, goals and aims of the A2E2 Librarian Network. It was decided that philosophy and
goal would be published on the appropriate section of our webpage.
Philosophy: The Australasian Engineering Librarian Network brings together people with an interest in engineering
education, information and knowledge. The Network is fully committed to creative, innovative pedagogies and
collaborative approaches.
Goal: The Australasian Engineering Librarian Network will provide engineering librarians and information professionals
with the opportunity to reflect on library and information services to engineering academics, researchers, students and
engineers. Collaboration through planning programs and performance will be explored to facilitate the sharing of
resources.
Action: Jocelyne to organise publishing this information on the A2E2 webpage.
3. Promotion
it was decided that the group would promote itself through publishing a brief article in the next issue of "InCite". Action: Jocelyne to draft article and send to the discussion list
4. Other engineering librarian groups There are other local engineering librarian groups such as ACCESS groups in Queensland and New South Wales. The
group discussed how the role of A2E2 Librarian Network differed from these existing groups. It was agreed that
engineering education and information literacy for engineers was an area that requires particular discussion and
collaboration. The establishment of the group as a virtual community that meets at the annual AAEE Conference
provided a much needed forum for such a focus. The existing local groups do not have such a defined focus. Action: Jocelyne will contact State networks to inform them about the AAEE Librarian Network.
5. Proposed future activities
- Draft a vision statement
- Review of current library programs on a national basis
- Identify future issues and directions for libraries and information professionals
with regard to engineering education and information literacy for engineers.
