JournalWatch
JournalWatch
It is very easy (and all too common) to judge a Journal by its Impact Factor. But there is more to it than just one number - when considering where you should send the fruits of your labour for publication, there are a whole raft of different factors you should consider. Review timeframes, publication fees, electronic access, IP transfer - these are just some of the factors that can matter when it comes to choosing a Journal.
The JournalWatch project is intended as a restaurant review-style guide to Journals in Engineering Education - a forum for authors to share their experiences with different journals, so that other authors can make an informed choice when it comes to submission of their manuscripts.
We are looking for contributions regarding Journals in the area of Engineering Education (and related fields). We are looking for the following information:
- Name of the Journal
- Contact details / website
- Frequency & schedule of publication
- Mission statement
- Externally benchmarked impact factors
- The nature of their peer review process - blind, double blind etc
- Usefulness / thoroughness of reviews
- Claimed time from submission to review to publication
- Actual time from submission to review to publication
- Ease of use of submission process
- Friendliness / responsiveness of editorial staff
- Publication costs
- Ownership of paper content
- Electronic publication / reproduction
Some of this information is objective, and available from the editors or from the journal's website. Some of this information is very subjective, and will be coloured by the personal experiences of the contributors. We'll be sure to make sure you know what is personal opinion and what is verifiable fact.
We are also looking to build up our listing of Journals, both those for which we have data, and those for which we do not.
At the moment we're looking for any contributions you may have - send us an email at journalwatch@aaee.com.au
