CDIO Special Interest Group

CDIO - Conceive, Design, Implement, Operate

Highlights in 2008

The AAEE CDIO Special Interest Group was established in 2008. During 2008, a prototype discussion area was established on EDNA with limited success. Also in 2008, AAEE was recognised as a CDIO Affiliate, the first arrangement of its kind throughout the world. To date, only two Universities in Australia are formal collaborators of CDIO (USyd and QUT), although it is known that many others are actively engaged in CDIO activities within Australia and New Zealand. USyd and QUT form the joint CDIO Regional Node for Australia and New Zealand. A successful ALTC bid was made between UNSW, UMelb, QUT and USyd to do with Design Based Curriculum Reform which is framed by CDIO. The second AAEE CDIO workshop/forum was conducted at AAEE 2008 exploring teaching and learning styles and experimenting with audience response technology clickers as data collection mechanisms for future research in the ALTC project.

AAEE 2009 CDIO Special Interest Group

In 2009, it is planned to finalise a web-site to facilitate the ANZ CDIO community of practice to promote and facilitate communication and sharing of CDIO ideas, resources and activities in the ANZ context.

Research in engineering curriculum reform will continue through the UNSW, UMelb, QUT, USyd ALTC project. Further projects around CDIO as a mechanism to facilitate curriculum reform will be encouraged.

We look forward to hosting the global CDIO Collaborators meeting in conjunction with the AAEE conference in 2010. This will be the first time that this meeting will have been held in Australia or New Zealand.
